In this project I looked to explore the space between touch and gesture and the relationship we have with our environment. I used paint to act as a memory of touch that happened and to illustrate the physical space that shrinks to nothing as a body comes in contact with a foreign surface. This project was also an attempt to try to re-examine the definition of the word gesture since any form a hand takes could be considered as such. The dark background and slightly surreal composition were done with the intent to show the strange experience of isolating one particular sense. As humans, we cannot entirely shut off all of our senses so it is a very unearthly thing to try. Imagine that whenever you are walking somewhere you close your eyes and feel the ground with your feet. If you do it for long enough it becomes a new form of sight.
